Carbon neutrality

Carbon neutrality (or “zero emissions”) is about achieving a balance between emissions and absorption of carbon from the atmosphere. Achieving carbon neutrality means eliminating net emissions, reducing them to a minimum and implementing practices that absorb all the remaining carbon from the atmosphere. To limit global warming to +1.5°C – the threshold defined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change as “safe” – it is essential to achieve global carbon neutrality by the middle of this century: this is the goal of some countries, such as those of the European Union.
It is worth remembering that in 2021, Chinese President Xi Jinping declared that China will achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.
