Parma saves almost two million plastic bottles in 2024 and prepares to become the European capital of water in 2025.

2024 ended with important results for water in Parma and sustainability.
The citizens of Parma have saved almost two million plastic bottles thanks to the use of the "Water Houses". These structures, distributed in various points of the city, have allowed to supply a quantity of water tripled compared to previous years, contributing significantly to the reduction of the use of single-use plastic.

The water in the public houses comes mainly from the wells of Marore and other city wells and is strictly controlled by the Iren Group and the Parma Local Health Authority.

The "Water Houses" not only offer an ecological and convenient alternative for water supply, but also have the merit of raising awareness among the population on the importance of environmental sustainability. This result was possible thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality of Parma and IRETI, a company of the Iren Group, which actively promoted the initiative and made the water supply service free.
The establishment and use of the "Water Houses" and the resulting saving of plastic bottles make a concrete contribution to the Parma Climate Neutral 2030 path. This ambitious project aims to make Parma one of the first cities in Europe to achieve climate neutrality by 2030. The plan includes a series of coordinated actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable practices in all sectors of city life.
